"A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change. So let's all choose to challenge. How will you help forge a gender equal world? Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality." See more from the the International Women's Day website here.

As a female leader, responsible for a member association of a largely female profession, the parallels between equality for women and equality for psychology must be acknowledged. Women's rights are human rights. You can read more about this in The Women's Agenda article here.

#ChooseToChallenge is an important concept to reflect on. Over the past few weeks, I have discussed with several members and colleagues the seemingly uphill battle AAPi is facing on behalf of our members. I know at times the obstacles seem insurmountable but we have made significant advances and I for one believe this is a fight worth having, regardless if we are ‘successful’ right now. What is the alternative, silent compliance? No way!

In my role as Executive Director of AAPi, I am surrounded by some truly awe-inspiring women. One such woman is AAPi member Dr Nadine Hamilton, winner of the 2020 Blackmores Women and Wellbeing award. Dr Hamilton has an incredible story. From 15 year old high school dropout to respected international expert on veterinary suicide prevention, author and charity founder. You can read more about Dr Hamilton and her charity here.

We are stronger together and I firmly believe by banding together we can improve mental health care in Australia.
