Advocacy and Media Update

Posted on 7 December 2021

Last week the Queensland Minister for Health cited AAPi and our call to raise the Medicare rebate in Parliament.

“The Australian Association of Psychologists also have reported that raising the Medicare rebate will enable more psychologists to bulk bill; enabling more clients to stay in treatment so their condition is adequately treated and allowing greater retention of psychologists in the profession”.

This was subsequently reported by a number of media outlets including The AustralianThe Herald SunThe West AustralianNT NewsCourier Mail,Daily Telegraph and the Adelaide Advertiser.

We look forward to working further with the Queensland Government to raise the Medicare rebate and improve access to psychologists.

AAPi was featured on Channel 7 News advocating for psychologists. Our key advocacy areas of raising the Medicare rebate, a provisional psychologist MBS item and further incentives and support for regional, rural and remote psychologists were all mentioned. Thanks to Christine Franklin and Justine McAllister for highlighting the issues facing the Whitsundays and many other areas in Australia. We urgently need the government to step up and support psychologists.

AAPi was also featured in the Herald Sun and the Geelong Advertiser calling for the government to expend session limits to up to 40 sessions annually and to allow clients to self refer and still claim under Medicare. Thank you Laura Lee for being interviewed.
