On the back of our full week of meetings and advocacy events in Canberra last week, we have had another productive and busy week. Our activities have included:

  • DVA advocacy for a one-tier fee structure and attendance at the DVA Health Providers Partnership Forum.
  • Consultation meeting with the NDIS and a submission to the NDIS review regarding patient safeguarding.
  • Meeting with the Department of Health Regulatory Strategy Section to reduce the regulatory red tape burdening psychologists and barriers to client access.
  • Allied Health Peak Body meetings for joint advocacy in the disability sector.
  • Family and Domestic Violence Consultation.
  • We achieved a 20% higher WorkCover fee in Queensland.
  • Infant and Children advocacy and 2-day working group attendance.
  • Joint advocacy to correct single clinical diagnosis of autism- we will have more to say on this next week.
  • Ongoing advocacy for ADHD.
  • Meeting with the Psychology Board regarding the new Code of Conduct.
  • Meeting with WorkSafe Vic key staff about the role of psychologists in IME assessments.
  • A group of members working with WorkSafe Vic clients have been instrumental in providing feedback about their provider manuals, policies and forms. Special thanks to these members for their contribution towards making conditions better for psychologists working in the scheme.
  • Important progression in our legal endeavours. We have some exciting updates to share in the coming weeks.

Everything we do is focused on making the day-to-day life of being a psychologist better, whilst addressing systemic challenges such as the two-tier system and barriers to entry for future psychologists.

We know that cost of living pressures are hurting many in our community. That is why we have not raised our membership fees this year and remain the most affordable professional membership in the sector. AAPi provides support, professional guidance, advocacy, advice, up-to-date information, extensive resources, free CPD and discounts. Make sure you join or renew before 30 June to claim your membership fees on your tax return.
