DVA Telehealth Advocacy Update

Posted on 24 November 2022

Earlier this year, DVA announced that telehealth arrangements for allied health providers delivering initial telehealth consultations would cease after 30 June 2022 unless prior approvals were granted. Due to incredible advocacy from so many, this decision has been reversed.

From 1 November 2022, eligible allied health providers can provide allied health mental health services by telehealth without requiring initial consultations to be held in person.

Telehealth services can only be provided if the full service can be delivered safely and following all relevant professional standards and clinical guidelines. Initial mental health consultations via DVA can only be delivered by telehealth, where the client and provider can see each other using video conferencing technology. Permanent allied telehealth arrangements will be reviewed from 2023.

Please check the DVA website for further information.
