New Depression Tool for Men

Posted on 21 July 2022

Screening for depression and suicidality in men may be complicated by traditional male role norms. In some cases, suicidality and depression may not be picked up by traditional measures that may be used in clinical practice. The Male Depression Risk Scale (MDRS) was developed to aid screening for depression in men adhering to traditional male role norms to facilitate the identification of depression in men in general and to promote treatment uptake. An open source validation study can be found here - Brief assessment of male depression in clinical care: Validation of the Male Depression Risk Scale short form in a cross-sectional study of Australian men | BMJ Open
