Telehealth Advocacy Win

Posted on 18 July 2022

Earlier this month, AAPi came out strongly against cuts to GP and psychiatrist related telehealth items. For example, see this article featuring AAPi's opposition to reducing access to telehealth. While these cuts did not directly affect psychologists, it does impact clients, the broader healthcare system and our healthcare colleagues. We believe strongly in working collaboratively with the wider health sector. We also decided to act to hopefully prevent future cuts that do directly impact the psychology sector. We are strong supporters of increased access to healthcare, and telehealth is one of the key platforms to achieve this.

We are glad to report that these strong campaigns paid off and the Federal Government has reversed the decision and extended some telehealth phone items until the end of October. We will continue to advocate for consumers and health professionals to determine the delivery method that is best for the individual client and continue to build our collaborative relationships with the entire healthcare community.
